—The Count of Monte Cristo, Alexandre Dumas (via ardentadmirations)
i may not have finished until after 11pm because of a few minor setbacks but i managed to make my grandma her favorite red velvet cake recipe for her birthday today (she’s 73)
I was reading posthuman theory (again. shhhh.) on silence of the lambs (…not technically applicable to my research but I’m putting it in my summer reading bibliography) and it occurred to me
how rare it is
that Clarice Starling had a dark traumatizing past that made her a brutal effective…
neither of them is actually gay
i whisper angrily as i close out yet another tab of slashfic
they both have genuine emotional, romantic, and sexual attractions to women in canon
and genuine emotional, romantic, and sexual relationships with women
sure we’ve never had a woman president, the majority of politicians and CEOs are men, a woman needs a masters degree just to make the same money as a man with a BA doing the same job, rape cases are grossly under prosecuted, and we teach young girls that they’re “asking for” rape based on what they’re wearing
but let’s talk about the REAL issues like how some woman on the internet is selling a coffee mug with the words “male tears” printed on it
Hozier | Take Me To Church
i’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
i’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
offer me that deathless death
good god, let me give you my life
I want to be one of those people who does yoga and eats berries for breakfast, but I’m one of those people who stays in bed until 4 pm and eats pizza.
holy shit is this real, I mean I think I paid $80 for all of my books in first year
yeah, this isn’t the first time, either, but usually i can find the more expensive ones at a partially discounted price used on amazon, but i can’t do that with this one if i need the access code (used books bought online rarely have them).
i’m going into my third year and i’ve never ever skirted around spending at least $150/semester on textbooks, and i’m an english/history double major - both of which have the cheapest books for the fields (as opposed to science/math/social science textbooks). last year i bought/rented all of mine used and still spent somewhere around $200 (and we didn’t even use five of the books i was told i had to buy).
and the profs at my college don’t tend to give you your required book lists until the first day of class, so the books you need in the first two weeks have to be bought from the bookstore since they wouldn’t arrive in time for you to start using them if you ordered them online.
the american education system is priced like a luxury and treated like a necessity and it would be a joke if i wasn’t stuck right in the middle of it.
yes awesome good 3 of my 4 fall classes still haven’t (and apparently aren’t gonna) post the book requirements, and the one that has only has one book that’s $170 new/$130 used and requires the access code stuff so i have to buy new or used from the campus bookstore directly
